Our society asks teachers and law enforcement to carry great burdens - all while paving the way for an educated, secure society. Too often, we fall short in retaining the finest of both professions. This hurts children and families everywhere.

Great teachers are the foundation of our educational system. They prepare our children not only for the workforce and for higher education, but for life. The Commonwealth rightly prides itself on having some of the finest colleges and universities in the United States, but our K-12 educators also deserve the resources that empower learning. That starts with higher wages.

I will work to ensure that educators and law enforcement officers are fairly compensated. My educational platform works to attract and keep the best teachers, supporting them as schools work through overcrowding and infrastructure challenges.

Our laws should prioritize community well-being, which means they should be grounded in humanity. More than 30 years of military service taught me how essential comprehensive firearms training and de-escalation techniques are for those who bravely pledge to protect our communities.

Every child deserves a quality education, and all Virginians deserve a safe community.

In this video, Wayne Powell - Virginia Senate District 11 democratic candidate, speaks at a Chesterfield forum where he explains why a focused priority on Public Education in our state is a MUST.

"I think one of the most visible symbols of how we are letting our children down is the fact that so many of our children are being taught out of trailers. This is not something that has just happened in the last few years. The fact is, these trailers have been around for literally decades, and it's simply unacceptable," Wayne Powell.
